On 13 October, 2015 a press conference on the results of the presidential election, that is to take place in Belarus on 11 October 2015, will be held at the Barys Zvozskau Belarusian Human Rights House.

On 7 October 2015, at 16:00 the Barys Zvozskau Belarusian Human Rights House together with the Freedom House (Lithuania office) and the Museum of Genocide Victims in Vilnius will organize a discussion “(Il)legal Killing…”. The event will be held at the Museum of Genocide Victims (Auku g.2) within the framework of the Week against the Death Penalty, organized by the campaign “Human Rights Defenders against the Death Penalty in Belarus” from 5 to 10 October, and dedicated to the World Day against the Death Penalty.

In Azerbaijan, space for independent civil society has disappeared, following a crackdown since the presidential election in October 2013. Ahead of the parliamentary elections in November 2015, all leading civil society actors are either in prison or have fled the country.

Human Rights House Network, united in Oslo to celebrate its 20th year, is walking to raise awareness of those who are not free to walk with us. It is an act of solidarity, seeking justice and freedom for human rights defenders.

Criminalisation and repression of human rights defenders is not the right way forward for Europe. This panel explores how human rights defenders will confront the realities of an increasingly hostile political environment.

As part of the International Day of Solidarity with the civil society of Belarus on 4 August the action in support of Belarusian political prisoners will be held in Vilnius. It was on 4 August 2011 when a prominent Belarusian human rights defender Ales Bialiatski was arrested in Minsk. Although he was granted early parole in 2014, the pressure on human rights defenders and activists continues. At least 6 political prisoners remain imprisoned in Belarus and there is no guarantee that there will be no new cases of political persecution in the light of the upcoming Presidential Elections in Belarus scheduled for 11 of October.
