China Seizes 65 North Korean Refugees and 2 South Koreans
Chinese police raided two hide-out places in the outskirts of Beijing, and arrested 65 North Korean refugees and 2 activist workers on October 26th. Among them, there are 11 teenagers and 1 senior aged over 70. In a press release, the Democracy Network Against North Korean Gulag (NK Gulag) urges chinese government to immediately release the North Korean refugees and the South Korean human rights workers. A group of Azerbaijani human rights defenders have appealed to a number of international bodies and influential human rights groups, including Human Rights House Foundation (HRH) to help secure the release of convicted oppositionists. “An unfair sentence was handed down on the convicted opposition leaders, who were charged with organizing disorders during the presidential elections on October 15-16, 2003,” the human rights groups underlined in their appeal. Hunger strikes against the election result
There are already three persons on hunger strike in the Republic of Belarus. All three cases are connected to the Parliamentary election. The first hunger strike was started by the chief editor of “Mestnaya Gazeta” newspaper Andrey Shantarovich. He believes the newspaper was suspended for political reasons so that it couldn’t elucidate the electoral process. (4-NOV-2004)

Today experts from the UN Human Rights Committee are going through Poland´s periodic report on the realization of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. In their prepared counter-reports, non-government organizations reproached the government first and foremost for discontinuing cases concerning beating up by the police, the reproductive policy, which brought wretched results, as well as homophobia.
