HRH and Norwegian P.E.N. condemn ceasing of Belarusian newspaper distribution

Oslo: The Human Rights House Foundation and Norwegian P.E.N. have condemned the decision by the Belarusian state-owned newspaper distributor Belposhta to cease distribution of privately-owned newspapers. Congolese refugees, especially the HR defenders among them, at risk

Was God a homophobe? Ask the Salvation Army, who removes gays

The current leadership of the Norwegian section of the inernational faith-based humanitarian organisation the Salvation Army believes homosexuality contradicts the word of God. This is why, according to themselves, they have removed a gay officer from his original functions within the organisation and given him other, less public relations-oriented tasks to deal with. Six nations revolt against U.N. censure

A United Nations committee is expected to block an attempt by the United States and European nations to single out six countries — Islamic Republic of Iran, North Korea, Burma (Republic of the Union of Myanmar), Republic of the Sudan, Turkmenistan and Republic of Uzbekistan — for condemnation on human rights abuses. Arguing that Western nations have double standards on human rights, all six countries will be using a procedural device to thwart the adoption of the six resolutions by calling for “no action motions”. Kurdish politicians urge EU to keep pressure on Turkey

Oslo: During their visit to the Human Rights House November 21, the Kurdish mayors Sukran Aydin and Leyla Guven, right, urged the European Union to keep pressure on Republic of Turkey with regard to the position of the Kurdic minority. Several Kurds have been killed during recent clashes with Turkish police and security forces in South Eastern Republic of Turkey, reported Aydin and Guven. Norwegian high school secures education for Ugandan children and youth

Thanks to the unflinching initiative of Catharina Vogt, right, and students at the Steiner School in Vestfold, south west of Oslo, several Gulu based children and youth now receive funds to cover their school fees and other costs related to their education. In total, some 5770 USD have been fundraised, to be distributed among ten children and youth, in most cases for a minimum of seven years? education. (22-NOV-05)
