The organization Zena Zenama, meaning Women to Women, calls its campaign «16 Days of Activities for the Elimination of Violence Against Women». Being the third such series of arrangements in three years, the campaign is establishing itself as a tradition. Joining Zena Zenama this year are the Gender Centre of the Federation of BiH, the Local Democracy Foundation, the Cantonal Centre for Social Work and the municipality of Novi Grad.

The purpose of the campaign is to increase the general public´s awareness of male violence against women. To this effect, the activists of the five organisations involved address the problem in a number of different ways. Among the activities are workshops for young people, open debates, self-defense training for girls, meetings with the student community and an information campaign directed towards school pupils on how to prevent this kind of violence. Zena Zenama sees their campaign as one of the innumerous campaigns around the world commencing from November 25, all addressing the same problem. As such, it is also just “another brick in the wall”, to the global effort to eliminate male violence against women.

The slogan of this year´s campaign is that “Violence is a public question and the problem of the whole society”. In a wider sense, the ultimate purpose of the campaign is to prevent any kind of violence and promote peace. Wherever it is done, in whichever way, addressing the problem of male violence against women gives hope to all women, all over the world, but especially in countries like BiH, where the government has committed itself to cooperate internationally not only to prevent violence, but also to persecute and punish the violators.
