Bashir Khalif Gani, Reporter for Radio Shabelle, Mohamed Abdi Nuhur, cameraman for Radio Shabelle, as well as Abdinasir Nur Gedi and Abdirisak Mire Dhore, respectively a reporter and a cameraman for HornCable TV, were wounded after artillery hit the place where Al-Shabaab Islamic group were holding a press conference in Warshadaha neighbourhood in southern Mogadishu.

The artillery, believed to have been fired by forces loyal to the Transitional Federal Government of Somalia, dispersed the other journalists who had come to the press conference. No one else was wounded in the shelling. The wounded journalists were immediately taken to hospital but were soon discharged, for security reasons. The medical staff advised that their wounds are treatable at their homes. The four sustained wounds on their hands, heads and chests.

“We call upon warring sides in Mogadishu to immediately end hostilities and respect the work of journalists,” said Omar Faruk Osman, right, NUSOJ Secretary General.
