Already the eighth manifestation Manifa – meaning a peaceful demonstration on the occasion of the International Women’s Day – took place on Sunday 6 March. The organizers were The Women on the 8 March Agreement and the Lesbians’ Agreement. A colorful parade passed through the main streets of Warsaw, accompanied by essential speeches and happenings.
The slogans on the banners spoke for themselves: “Promote women, compliments for men”, “Patriarchy is dying”, “Strong women – free world”, “Feminism is yummy”, “Our bodies, our life, our rights”. More or less halfway through the march, the parade encountered the members of the rightwing youth organization “All-Polish Youth”, who were separated by a police cordon, but chanted i.e. “lesbians, gays, you’re the laughing stock of Poland”, “Abortion is Holocaust”.
The Women on the 8 March Agreement organizes the manifestations “Manify” each year under different slogans. This year’s took place under the watchword “We are strong, together we are stronger”, and its objective was to protest against the economic discrimination of women, and homophobia and aggression against sexual minorities in Poland.
