As Supreme Court judge, A. Barak is commonly acknowledged for his activities in support of active judicature, which deals with inter alia vivid interpretation of the Constitution and overseeing Knesset laws. In the period when he served as the President of the Supreme Court, the court issued rulings crucial for Israel concerning the essence of the state, civil liberties and the competences of the Knesset and Israeli Prime Minister to enforce decisions.
