This will make it easy to get an overview of HRHF and the Houses’ activities, and give you access to exclusive content relating to human rights defenders and the rights to freedom of assembly, association, and expression. It will also keep you up to date with upcoming events, through our calendar of important dates.

The first edition comes just ahead of the Assembly of Human Rights Houses in Belgrade, and gives you an insight into what we will get up in our discussions and workshops. It also guides you around the Human Rights House Belgrade and the organisations there.

On top of this, you will get an insight into our work promoting international standards on the protection of lawyers, showing the process behind this, as well as our thoughts on the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights’ recent statement in which he addresses States’ non-cooperation with the United Nations. And if you have ever thought about the possibility of crowdfunding for human rights activities, you can read Human Rights House Voronezh’s experience of such an initiative.

Future editions will draw on the huge amount of expertise and many inspiring stories of the of the people and organisations working within the Human Rights Houses, and provide their national perspectives on the situation for human rights, human rights defenders, and civil society.

The newsletter is very much inspired by the Houses. Future editions will be driven by their content contributions, making it a great tool to bring developments affecting human rights defenders at the national level to international attention, and to relay information and analysis from the international level.

We hope everyone enjoys and benefits from this newsletter, and that human rights defenders, the Houses and their networks, international decision-makers, donors, and media come to count on it as an important resource. The newsletter will initially be published once a month, with the next newsletter published in mid-December.

The Houses will receive guidance on how they can contribute content and ideas for future editions of the newsletter.
