Jury of 13th WATCH DOCS

As in each year, the competition for the WATCH DOCS Award is the most exciting section of the festival. In 2013, more than ten documentaries from around the world compete for the title of the best film of the 13th Festival’s edition. As always, the international jury will select the film that will leave Warsaw with the prize.

The jury judging the films admitted to the competition is composed of Maria Ramos, this year’s laureate of the Marek Nowicki Prize and a master of contemporary documentary, Shadi Sadr, an Iranian lawyer, journalist and human rights defender, Fernand Melgar, the Morocco-born Swiss director, the author of several exceptional films, including “Special Flight”, which won the main award of the 11th WATCH DOCS festival, Tadeusz Sobolewski, a Polish film critic, journalist, a former editor-in-chief of the Kino magazine, writer, co-creator of the television programme “Kocham Kino”, and Veton Nurkollari, the artistic director of one of the biggest European documentary festivals DokuFest. International Documentary and Short Film Festival in Kosovo.

Advocating for increased support for civil society, and marking 30 years of the Network of Human Rights Houses

From October 7-11, 2024, 15 human rights defenders from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Russia, Serbia, and Ukraine gathered for a week of advocacy as a part of the Network of Human Rights Houses’ 30th anniversary celebrations. Human Rights House Foundation (HRHF) and Network partners aimed to deepen engagement with Norwegian policymakers and raise awareness of critical human rights challenges across the region, emphasising the need for increased political and financial support from Norway for civil society.
