„We acknowledged the words glorifing application of death penalty with the highest amazement. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, the Member State of the Council of Europe and the European Union, whose compatriot has just become the President of the European Parliament, should know the opinion of Europe in this matter and should actively canvass for abolishing this inhuman penalty in the whole world. He surely should not refer to emotions of potential voters without any inhibitions.

The statement of Minister Sikorski was a reaction to informations received from the government of Pakistan that they captured the person who is suspected the murder of Polish citizien – Piotr Stańczak in Pakistan in February 2009.
„This is one of the murderers. I hope that gained testimonies will bring us to others. I hope he will be judged fairly. In this case „fairly” means „very harshly”. I am happy that he will be judged in Pakistan where a death penalty is in rule” – said Minister Sikorski.
Piotr Stańczak was a worker of a polish firm from Krakow – "Geofizyka Kraków". In September 2008 he was kidnapped in Pakistan by the Taliban. They demanded releasing their companions from prisons. Because of the fact that their demands were not fulfilled, on 7 February 2009 the Taliban announced that the polish citizen – Piotr Stańczak was killed. In April his corpse was transported to Poland. The funeral took place in Krosno in South Poland.
