Greenpeace the Russian Federation and Amnesty International started an unprecedented joint action in support of journalist Grigori Pasko, who has been accused of espionage. (09-APR-2002)

The Russian justice system created a precedent when an international human rights organization and an international organization for ecology united in action to protect the rights of Grigory Pasko. Amnesty International considers Grigory Pasko a prisoner of conscience since he was punished for voicing his protest against certain practices of Russian Federation Naval forces – in particular he discovered that they dumped nuclear weapons in the sea. Pasko made a film about this and wrote several articles in newspapers. Jointly Greenpeace and Amnesty International pressed president Putin to do everything in his power to free Grigory Pasko.
