61 people from 12 countries spent a week in Miedzeszyn near Warsaw and participated in the courses of the International Winter School on Human Rights organized by the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights. During the courses they familiarized themselves with the fundamental issues concerning human rights and the mechanisms of their protection.
The International Winter School on Human Rights has been operating since 1998 and its role is to provide fundamental education in the scope of the human rights to the audience from countries in Eastern Europe, the Caucus, and Central Asia: non-government organization leaders and activists, students and young scientists, journalists and other individuals, who may need basic knowledge of human rights in their activities.
Many graduates of the previous 7 editions of the International Winter School on Human Rights later completed the workshops at the Human Rights Training Centre, organized by the HFHR, and participated in the Advanced Course on Human Rights for NGO Leaders, organized by the Foundation for three years now. The majority of them actively seeks to support of the development of democracy and human rights protection in their countries.
