Gunnar Sørbø was a board member of the Rafto Foundation between 2001 and 2006.
He has agreed to be Head of the Board of Directors in 2012 because he believes the Rafto Foundation plays an important international role in highlighting the importance of human rights.”The foundation has for many years managed to highlight individuals and organizations that are vulnerable and that need all the support they can get. They have been strengthened by the Rafto Prize award. The Rafto Foundation is run on limited financial resources, but it has skilled and enthusiastic staff who are assisted by students in Bergen. What the Rafto Foundation has achieved since it was established in 1986 is impressive”, says Gunnar Sørbø.
He takes over from Anne Kloster Holst who has held the position since 2010.
