The conference was attended by both academics and professionals who analysed diferent aspects of the authorization in the new media law and its consequences for the standard of freedom of expression in Poland. Among them were: Teresa Torańska, a journalist of “Gazeta Wyborcza”, author of numerous interviews with polititians and political activists, Ireneusz C. Kamiński (PhD) and proffesor Bogudar Kordasiewicz, representing the Legal Institute of the Polish Academy of Science, and Michał Zaremba (PhD), from the Faculty of Journalism of the University of Warsaw.
The conference was organized within the new programme of the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights called the Observatory of Freedom of the Media in Poland. This programme is carried out in partnership with Human Rights House Foundation (Oslo) and Article XIX (London). The main goal of the Programme is the increase of standards related to freedom of expression of both print, broadcast and electronic media.
