Marek Antoni Nowicki, the President of the Helsinki Foundation for Human and former Ombudsperson in Kosovo participated in the “Regional Ombudsman Conference: Support and Obstacles to the Protection of Human Rights”, which took place on 8th and 9th June 2007 in Pristina/Kosovo. The conference brought ombudsman institutions from across southeastern Europe together with representatives of Kosovo’s local authorities, civil society groups and media. (11-JUNE-07)

The conference were organized by the Ombudsperson Institution in Kosovo with the support of the US Office in Pristina and the OSCE Mission in Kosovo. Acting Ombudsperson Mr. Hilmi Jashari, Head of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo Ambassador Werner Wnendt, Kosovo President Mr. Fatmir Sejdiu and Minister for Justice Mr. Jonuz Salihaj made opening remarks. Representatives of ombudsman institutions from Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, Macedonia, Albania and Greece as well as Mr. Peter Kostelka Chairman of the International Ombudsman Network (European Region) and Ms. Irini Kitsou-Milonas, Legal Advisor to the Council of Europe’s Office of the Human Rights Commissioner were speaking at the conference. Mr. Marek Antoni Nowicki delivered a keynote speech on “The ombudsman institution and conditions of its efficiency – the Kosovo experience”.
The conference resulted in the joint recommendations.
