Prof. Ewa Łętowska was the first Human Rights Defender in Poland and in Central Europe. She occupied the post between 1987 and 1992. In 1992, after the expiry of her term of office as the HRD, she joined the Helsinki Committee in Poland and began her close collaboration with the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights headed at that time by Marek Nowicki. In years 1999-2002 she was a judge of the Supreme Administrative Court. From 2001 to 2011 she sat in the Constitutional Tribunal. She worked as a lecturer at Panthéon Sorbonne in Paris. She also held lectures and presentations at other European universities. Prof. Łętowska authored more than 300 publications on civil and constitutional law and protection of consumer rights.
The lecture is being held to honour Marek Nowicki, the first and long-sitting President of the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights.
