Georgian authorities must immediately halt use of unlawful force against protestors

In a joint statement, Human Rights House Foundation and members of the Network of Human Rights Houses urge the Georgian authorities to take immediate action to the violent crackdown on protestors, protect the right to peaceful assembly, and comply with international law. Additionally, we call on the international community to condemn these violations, pressure Georgian authorities to end police violence and the use of ill-treament against protestors, and work with Georgian human rights defenders to address documented violations and ensure accountability.

Georgia on the verge of descent into authoritarianism: The authorities must immediately stop repressions against independent voices

We, the undersigned members of the Network of Human Rights Houses and other international civil society organisations urge the government of Georgia to immediately end the ongoing repressions against independent voices. We condemn the use of illegal and disproportionate force against largely peaceful protestors, physical attacks against civil society representatives, alleged illegal detention of a well-known blogger, coordinated campaign of smear, harassment and intimidation against journalists, human rights defenders and their family members, including children.

Authorities in Georgia & Republika Srpska must irrevocably withdraw legislation threatening to stifle independent civil society

Human Rights House Foundation and members of the Network of Human Rights Houses urge the Parliament of Georgia and the National Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Republika Srpska to drop proposed “Foreign agent” legislation that can damage civil society and media irreversibly, to respect international obligations undertaken by their states under Council of Europe and the UN instruments, and to uphold fundamental freedoms underpinning free and independent civil society.

Georgian authorities must guarantee freedom of artistic expression

Human Rights House Foundation and members of the Network of Human Rights Houses join their Georgian colleagues in a joint statement expressing solidarity with Georgian filmmaker Salome Jashi, her colleagues, and all the representatives of the art & cultural sector, as well as calling on the Georgian authorities to ensure a safe an enabling environment for artistic creativity in the country.
