At the press-conference, head of Georgian Center for Psycho-Social and Medical Rehabilitation of Torture Victims Lela Tsiskarishvili and psychologist of the Center Maya Tsiramua provided media with the information about current conditions of juvenile convicted in penitentiary establishments. They have discussed pre-conditions of the August 8, 2012 “riot”, which occurred in Avchala Prison # 11 for juvenile convicted as well as some problems related with the investigation of its outcome and current conditions of the juvenile prisoners accused of participating in the “riot.”

GCRT requests to re-investigate the cases of the juveniles participating in the so-called riot and to promptly improve conditions for them in order to enable them to enjoy every right guaranteed by the law. The Center also requests the government as well as society to be particularly considerate about juvenile convicted and to ensure transformation of the juvenile penitentiary establishment into educational institution which will be oriented at the development of underage citizens.
