The States at Rome recognized thus;

“…….During this Century millions of Children, Women and Men have been victims of unimaginable atrocities that deeply shock the Conscience of humanity…..”

It is now close to six and a half years since the Rome Statute entered into force. Pursuant to Article 123 of this statute, the Secretary General of the United Nations is enjoined to convene a Review Conference to consider any amendments to the statute, seven years after its entry into force which is due in 2010.

To this end, HURINET-U and the UCICC welcome the upcoming Review Conference that will be hosted in Kampala, Uganda in 2010. The review Conference will;

1)      Stock take the work of the Court since the first referral,

2)      Consider the definition of the Crime of Aggression with a view to its adoption

3)      Consider possible amendments to the Statute

4)      Consider any other business that will be laid out for the Conference.

As members of civil society and as the leaders in the organization of successful civil society participation at the Review Conference, HURINET-U and the UCICC have partnered with the International partners No Peace without Justice to organize pre-review and Review Conference Activities that will be aimed at engaging States’ representatives.

To this effect therefore, HURINET-U and the UCICC invite members of civil society particularly Non Governmental Organizations (both Local and International) and Community Based Organisations to express interest in participating at the said pre-review and review conference activities by sending notice of intention and nature of participation to ucicc_uganda@yahoo.com to enable us plan for accreditation in advance.
