”Leader-Woman” Magazine Published
The new magazine titled “Leader-Woman” started to be published in the Republic of Azerbaijan. The magazine, covering the information about the activities of women’s organizations is the initiative of the Association for the Protection of Women’s Rights after D.Aliyeva. The magazine is also aimed at agitating the women’s input to the development of society. (20-JUL-07)
HRW: Journalists to be Released
At the end of his 3 day’s visit to Republic of Azerbaijan, the executive director of Human Rights Watch, Kenneth Roth (right), held a press conference on the 17-th of July 2007. He addressed a number of human rights issues, but specifically focused on advocating the immediate release of Azerbaijan’s seven imprisoned journalists. (18-JUL-07)
The right to live without violence campaign launched in Russia
Early September a ‘White Ribbon’ action, intended to combat domestic violence, was launched in Vologda region. The organizers strongly believe that if we can’t resist the home violence, we can at least reduce it. The most important thing is not to keep silent! AYLU Conducts Anti-Trafficking Trainings for Police
Republic of Azerbaijan Young Lawyers Union is conducting trainings for law enforcement on “Struggling against human trafficking; cooperation between governmental and civil society organization” within the programme of CRS in the South Caucasus on enhancing the collaboration between civil society and governmental bodies on struggling against human trafficking. Human Rights House in Baku Registered
After almost a year of intensive efforts, the Human Rights House in Baku passed the registration at the Ministry of Justice on the 25-th of May 2007. The HRH Baku was registered as a branch of Human Rights House Foundation in the Republic of Azerbaijan Republic.

Problems of Political Prisoners
On 5 July the head of the Human Rights Center of Republic of Azerbaijan (HRCA) Eldar Zeynalov (right) had a meeting with the “AGO” Monitoring Group. The main issues of the discussion were current political situation in the Republic of Azerbaijan as well as the list of political prisoners, composed by the Federation of Human Rights Organizations of Republic of Azerbaijan. Concern About President’s Speech
The statement of President Ilham Aliyev (right) about the prohibition on punishing policemen who committed violence against citizens during the parliamentary elections in 2005 has caused negative reactions in society. Condemn from Human Rights House Foundation
The Human Rights House Foundation is concerned with the statement of president Ilham Aliyev made at the Policy Academy on 2 July 2007. HRHF condemns the promise of unpunishment to the police for the violent dissolution of the demonstrations. No Punishment for Violence
On the 2-nd of July 2007 president Ilham Aliyev (right) gave a speech during the graduation ceremony at Azerbaijan’s Police Academy. He said that despite of the permanent international call to punish the policemen, who “had prevented the illegal actions of politicians during demonstrations, none of the policemen would be punished, as they were carrying out their professional duty”. Nobel Laureate returns to the Human Rights House
Shirin Ebadi, the 2003 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, returned to the Human Rights House in Oslo today and presented a very grave picture of the human rights situation in her home country Islamic Republic of Iran. -It is deteriorating by the ay, she said, as she also made it clear that the HRH Network has a crucial role to play for human rights defenders like herself, working at high risk and under pressure from authorities and others. Opposition activist get two years’ imprisonment for web article
The opposition leader, deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the 13th Convocation Andrei Klimau, right, was arrested on 3 April 2007 for an article of 25 January 2007 that was published by the web-site of the United Civil Party. A criminal case was brought before the court under part 3 of article 361 of the Criminal Code ‘Public calls to seizure of the state power or forced change of the state order of the Republic of Belarus committed with the use of mass media’.
