Інтэрнэт без свабоды

1 лютага Аляксандр Лукашэнка падпісаў указ, які ўводзіць цэнзуру ў Інтэрнэце. Закон пачне дзейнічаць з 1 ліпеня. Міжнародная праваабарончая арганізацыя “Рэпарцёры без межаў” заявіла, што пасля прыняцця такога закону, беларускія ўлады трапляюць у спіс так званых “ворагаў Інтэрнэту”, становяцца ў адзін шэраг з Кітаем, Паўночнай Карэяй, Бірмай.

Rafto Prize: Call for nominations

Voluntary organisations, institutions and individuals worldwide are welcome to nominate candidates for the 2010 Rafto Prize for Human Rights. The Rafto Prize, awarded in memory of Norwegian professor Thorolf Rafto, is awarded to an individual or organisation that embodies and upholds the principles of the Human Rights Charter through activism or engagement.

Rafto Prize ceremony

The prize will be delivered to the Laureate selected by the Rafto Prize Committee and announced on 23 September 2010 in Bergen. A recipient should be an active participant in the struggle for the ideals and principles underlying the Human Rights Charter, or be an embodying symbol of these. A recipient may be a person or an organisation, and two or more recipients may share the prize.

Recipients are to be selected by the Rafto Prize Committee. The 2010 Rafto Prize Committee is chaired by Siri Gloppen, Professor at the University of Bergen, Institute of Comparative Politics and Christian Michelsen Research Institute (CMI).

Group of journalists attacked in Gornja Maoca

Around 600 police officers and security personnel of B&H private security companies have started conducting the police action “Svjetlost” (“Light”). The goal of the action is to identify persons who pose a threat to the state security. So far six persons have been arrested, and recently group of journalists attacked.

“Do not touch Roma, they are infected”

“Do not touch Roma, they are infected” is a label that has recently appeared on the counter of a bus station in Zagreb. Some of the shocked travelers took photos of it and forwarded them to the media in Zagreb in order to draw attention to the racist breakdown in the Croatian capital.

Belarusian government extends its control over Internet

Reporters Without Borders regrets that President Alexander Lukashenko (Aliaksandr Lukashenka) signed a decree on 1 February 2010 establishing extensive control over Internet access and online content. “The Belarusian authorities are trying to tighten their control over the Internet as they already did with the traditional media,” Reporters Without Borders stated.
