Human Rights House Banja Luka was established in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2023. Today the House unites ten organisations.


About
Human Rights House Banja Luka unites ten organisations with decades of combined experience in promoting and protecting human rights, with a particular focus on the rights of women, children, whistleblowers, and environmental activists. Their work spans active citizenship and youth empowerment, gender equality, conflict transformation, mental health, community inclusion, cultural activism, and fostering non-violence and trust-building in diverse communities.
In 2024, the Human Rights Houses in Belgrade, Banja Luka and Zagreb established the Regional Network of Human Rights Houses in Southeastern Europe in order to have close regional cooperation to address common human rights challenges, by coordinating evidence-based regional advocacy efforts and learning from shared experience.

Banjaluka Centre for Human Rights is a non-governmental, non-party, not-for-profit organisation for human rights monitoring in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Balkan region. The organisation aims to generate changes in the field of Centre’s expertise by providing help in the development of a modern democratic society within the legal state founded on the principles of the rule of law, equality, tolerance and respect.

Center for Environment (CfE) is an organisation that is focused on a broad scope of environmental issues. Following more than 20 years of proactive work and contribution to various public policies, more recently CfE is also focusing on the implementation of the Aarhus Convention and general democratisation of decision-making processes in environmental matters, along with advocating for better access to public information, access to justice and specifically for security and wellbeing of environmental human rights defenders.

Citizens Association Srce na Dlanu is dedicated to promoting humane, civic, and democratic values with the aim of creating a society based on peace, justice, solidarity, and prosperity for all citizens. Through its work, the association strives to empower individuals for socially useful work through volunteer activities, humanitarian and youth engagement. The main activities include providing assistance to families with three or more children, children without parental care, socially disadvantaged individuals, as well as children and adults with developmental disabilities. Additionally, the association organises social gatherings for children with developmental difficulties, thereby contributing to inclusion and strengthening the community.

Genesis Project, a humanitarian organisation founded in 1996 in Banja Luka, Republika Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina, focuses on various key areas with the aim of improving society and supporting vulnerable groups. The main areas include the promotion of non-violence and conflict transformation through education on peaceful conflict resolution, protecting children from violence and neglect through secondary prevention programs, and improving mental health and psychosocial resilience among youth. The organisation actively works on reducing ethnic segregation in schools through projects such as “Bridges of Trust and Cooperation” and “Football3 for Peace,” using sports and creative workshops to build trust between communities. Additionally, through programs like eUPSHIFT and Service-Learning in the Arts, Genesis Project empowers young people to become social innovators, developing their problem-solving skills and active participation in society. All of the organisation’s programs are based on the principles of non-violence, equality, sustainability, and transparency, with a particular focus on empowering children, youth, and local communities.

Perpetuum Mobile aims to achieve its vision by acting through six strategic directions: Fighting for active citizenship, developing healthy lifestyles among young men and gender equality, political education of youth, acting as a resource center for capacity building of other organisations, strengthening and standardising youth centers, and internal organisational development.

Although a member of the global Transparency International movement, Transparency International in Bosnia and Herzegovina (TI BiH) is a locally run and operated NGO, that identifies, investigates and responds to the corruptive phenomena and their causes in Bosnian-Herzegovinian society, and is committed to the development of social and individual integrity in the fight against corruption.

The “United Women” Foundation Banja Luka is a non-governmental, non-profit foundation established on August 16, 1996, in Banja Luka. The foundation advocates for a life free from violence for women and children and aims to increase the influence of women in public and political life through the promotion and protection of women’s human rights in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Their vision is: “A woman aware of her power, equal, respected, employed, and happy.” The foundation’s strategic directions are preventing and combating violence against women and children and achieving gender equality in public and political life.

Association of Independent Creators and Activists Geto – UNSA Geto was founded in 1999 as an association of artists who revolted against the post war repression in their society, gathering musicians and artists until 2009 when they noticed that activists were joining them. They began working on being a bridge between art and activism, using art as a method for democratising society. They have been managing their space, Social- Cultural Center Incel – DKC Incel, during the past decade and have been hosting a yearly regional art festival, BL ART Festival.
