World University Service Graz in cooperation with Center for Human Rights Zagreb organizes panel discussion on the book „Reclaiming Democracy: Civil Society and Electoral Change in Central and Eastern Europe“  written by Jörg Forbrig and Pavol Demeš.

The book “Reclaiming Democracy” deals with the set of democratic changes that expended from Slovakia and Croatia to Serbia, Georgia and Ukraine.

Civil society organizations’ campaigns, coalitions of opposite parties, international context, but as well activation and participation of the citizens eventually, have brought the democratic changes in above mentioned countries. In these “second democratic transitions” there are certain similarities, but also differences.

Introductory presentation of the book will be held by:

  • Jörg Forbrig, author of the book and Higher Program Consultant in the Office of German Marshall Fund in Bratislava,
  • Miljenko Dereta, Executive Director of the association Citizens’ Initiative from Belgrade,
  • Zarko Puhovski, professor of Philosophy of Politics at Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb.
