On 22 April 2010, the European Court of Human Rights ruled that he had been wrongfully imprisoned and called for his immediate release.

After the European Court began reviewing his case, Eynulla Fatullayev was charged with possessing illegal drugs. This new charge is widely believed to have been fabricated in order to keep him in prison. His trial on this charge is ongoing.

In March 2010 Eynulla’s father, Emin Fatullayev, received a death threat for speaking out about his son. This is the third of such threats he has received.

On Thursday 3 June, ARTICLE 19, Amnesty International UK, English PEN and Index on Censorship will be holding a demonstration outside the Azerbaijani embassy in London to call for Eynulla Fatullayev’s immediate release.

RSVP: For logistical reasons it would be helpful if we can estimate numbers likely to attend the demonstration – please iar@amnesty.org.uk with “Azerbaijan demo [insert number] attending” in subject header to let us know if you – and any of your friends, family or colleagues – are planning to join us. Thank you.
