Alexander Sjödin

European Advocacy Officer
Languages: English, French, Italian, Swedish
Responsibilities: Advocacy towards the Council of Europe and European Union

I help to bring the local voices of human rights defenders to the table of diplomats and decision-makers. Together, we inform them, convince them and strive to achieve long-term sustainable human rights improvements with them.

As HRHF’s European Advocacy Officer, Brussels-based Alexander works with members of Human Rights Houses and other partners to raise human rights concerns and recommendations in European fora. In particular, he focuses on thematic and geographic advocacy towards the European Union and the Council of Europe.

Alexander joined HRHF in 2014. Prior to that, he gained professional experience at the EU Delegation to Ukraine, Human Rights Watch and at the European Parliament. Alexander holds a Bachelor Degree in Political Science from the Université Libre de Bruxelles and a Master Degree in Eurasian Studies from the University of Uppsala.
