Aase Sand 2 100.jpg-International attention and pressure against the military junta is important, both to strengthen the demand for release of the arrested and to making living and working conditions more secure for those still able to work or support the ongoing campaign inside Burma. The more signatures the more international attention, the stronger pressure against the Junta, emphasises Åse Sand, left, the Norwegian Burma Committee’s Information Officer.

Brave campaign gaining momentum
210 000 signatures have so far been collected – inside Burma. In addition, a so-called ‘White Expression’-campaign was launched in Burma on Monday, in which people are encouraged to dress all in white to protest the arrests. In Burma, due to the state of fear that people have been living under for such a long time, such collective campaigns are rare. Even so, the campaign continues, despite reports of threats and arrests directly connected with the campaign.
