The graduates of the project, who are practicing lawyers and attorneys from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine, will share their experiences, discuss guarantees of the institute of the Bar in legislation and practice in their own countries. Participants of the conference will also be able to get advice from experts from professional associations of lawyers from Europe and the US Representatives of Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe as well as professional associations of lawyers from Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland and the USA will address the participants.

How well the legislation on the legal profession guarantee the independence of lawyers and quality protection?    Are there national and international networks of attorneys/lawyers specializing in human rights?What are the challenges that lawyers encounter in their practice and how to solve them? The search for answers to these questions is the main aim of the work at the conference "Lawyers: Human Rights Protection and Professional Security Guarantees"

The conference will be attended by the graduates of the educational project together with the experts in the field of advocacy from participating countries and representatives of member organisations of Human Rights House Network and project partners.The question of using resources and HRH Network and HRH Network Programme for enhancing professional and institutional capacities of lawyers and human rights defenders and reducing the risks in their work will also be discussed during the conference.

Based on their own experience and examples from international experts, the participants will discuss the possibilities of reform of the legal profession in their countries and possible ways of cooperation – implementation of joint projects, preparation of joint reports, exchange of experience and materials.

The conference is organized by the Human Rights House Foundation (Norway), the Barys Zvozskau Belarusian Human Rights House (Belarus-Lithuania), the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights (Poland, Human Rights House), the Legal Education Society (Azerbaijan, Human Rights House), Embassy of Human Rights (Moldova), Russian Research Centre for Human Rights (Russia, Human Rights House), Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union ( Ukraine, Human Rights House) with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway and the Nordic Council of Ministers.

The first international conference of the project was held in September 2010. A number of similar conferences were organised since then.The conferences have opened up new opportunities for lawyers to discuss joint approaches for using legal standards in their legal systems. Participants and graduates of the project created a strong interregional professional network, promoting the work of local human rights organizations, including the members and partners of Human Rights House Network.

The main goal of the project "Electronic Human Rights Education for Lawyers" is to strengthen the promotion, protection and enforcement of human rights under the rule of law by building the capacity of lawyers through training, networking and awareness-raising on direct application of human rights standards at the national level.
