Siri Gloppen has been a member of the Rafto Prize Committee since 2002.

International research
Ms. Gloppen has extensive experience with international research and has worked as Professor at the Institute of Comparative Politics, University of Bergen and Research Director for Rights, Democracy and Development at the Christian Michelsen Institute (CMI). Ms. Gloppen’s specialist areas are policy analysis, democratisation, human rights, rule of law, civil society and institutional change with a particular focus on Eastern and Southern Africa.

She takes over from Arne Liljedahl Lynngård, who has led work on the Prize for eight years.

Siri Gloppen – new Head of the Prize Committee

Anne K. Bang – new committee member
Senior Researcher at Uni Global research centre, Bergen. Fields of research: the spread and development of Islam, particularly in Eastern and Southern Africa.

Kjetil Bjorvatn
Professor at the Department of Economics, Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration (NHH). Fields of research: economic geography, economic development, and fiscal federalism.

Kjersti Fløttum – new committee member
Professor at the Department of Foreign Languages, University of Bergen, and Head of Bergen Summer Research School on Global Development Challenges. Fields of research: text theory, French linguistic polyphony, language use in academic and political contexts.

Thomas Frantsvold
Master of Economics and Administration, Editor at TDN Finans, a financial news agency. Thomas is a member of the Board of the Norwegian Burma Committee and has extensive experience as a human rights activist.

Martin Paulsen
Post Doctoral Researcher in the project "The Future of Russian" at the Department of Foreign Languages, University of Bergen. Fields of research: linguistics, Russian literature, Internet.

Arne Strand – new committee member
Research Director for Peace, Conflict and the State at the Christian Michelsen Institute (CMI). Fields of research: humanitarian assistance in complex emergencies, peace-building, democratisation and civil society, particularly in Afghanistan, Indonesia, and Sri Lanka.

Ragna Aarli
Assistent Professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Bergen. Fields of research: public access to legal proceedings, criminal law and criminal procedure, international, constitutional and human rights law, legal theory.

Prize Committee – the Board of the Rafto Foundation
The award ceremony will take place at the National Venue of Theatre (DNS) in Bergen on Sunday, 7 November 2010.

In connection with the annual Rafto Prize award ceremony, the Rafto Foundation hosts a symposium bringing together experts in the field to discuss human rights issues from different perspectives and disciplines. Rafto Symposium 2010 will take place at Grand Selskapslokaler, Bergen, on Friday, 5 November 2010.

The Prize Committee is responsible for finding candidates for the Rafto Prize and presenting them to the Board of the Rafto Foundation. The Board is the deciding body and determines who should receive the Rafto Prize.

Announcement of the Rafto Prize 2010
The Rafto Prize 2010 will be announced at the Rafto House on Thursday, 23 September 2010 at 10:00 (Norwegian time).
