The director of CARE International NWB Sarajevo, Sumka Bucan, president of the Association of Roma Women “Better Future” from Tuzla, Indira Bajramovic, president of the Association of Roma from Tuzla ‘’Eurorom’’, Nedzad Jusic, and coordinator of CARE International NWB project, Jadranka Milicevic, also activist from CURE Foundation, spoke about the regional campaign ”I’m a Roma Woman” that started on 8th of April in the Human Rights House of Sarajevo.

The campaign is one of the activities of the three-year regional project “Empowerment of Roma Women”, implemented by CARE International NWB, as part of the Decade of Roma Inclusion 2005-2015, in partnership with the Roma women’s NGOs / associations from the region: “Better Future”- Tuzla (BiH), “Center for Roma Initiatives – Niksic (Montenegro), “Roma Women’s Centre – Bibi “- Belgrade (Serbia), and “The Roma Have the Heart” – Jagodnjak (Baranja, Croatia).

Created video, shows four Roma women – from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro and Croatia, who indicate prejudice and discrimination that they are facing with, but also the need for education and employment of Roma, particularly women.

At the same time, they themselves are a shining example that should bring all the viewers a new, positive image of Roma and the Roma population in general and minority populations to provide hope and motivation for learning and advancement. All women in the video are activists in their communities that aim to improve the position of Roma women in society.

“Our desire is that this campaign points to discrimination and prejudice against Roma, especially the Roma women. On the other hand, to point to the reality that throughout the country and region, there are extremely capable and strong Roma women, who have much to contribute to BiH society and societies from which they come, ” said Feni Project Manager CARE International NWB Sarajevo, Jadranka Milicevic.

CARE International NWB contributed to the celebration of this day, starting his regional campaign aimed at the empowerment of Roma women and raising of the public awareness of their position in society.

The campaign was created in the production of Romedia Foundation in Budapest and will officially be implemented from 8th of April to 14th of May, 2010. when there will be held the last regional conference in Belgrade, organized by CARE International NWB and partners on the topic: The role and participation of Roma women in the implementation of national action plans for the Decade of Roma Inclusion 2005-2015.

Project is financially supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway.
