Another lecture dedicated to the memory of Marek Nowicki took place on 1 December 2006 at Warsaw University. It was entitled “Reflections on the French Declaration of Rights from 1789 – today” delivered by Professor Jon Elster. (02-DEC-06)

Professor Jon Elster holds the offices of Robert K. Merton Professor of the Social Sciences at Columbia University and Professor of the Chaire de Rationalité et Sciences Sociales at College de France in Paris. Between 1989 and 1995 he served the office of Edward L. Ryerson Distinguished Service Professor at the University of Chicago. In his nine widely translated books and more than 100 articles and reviews professor Elster has explained political behavior drawing from knowledge and experience in multiple disciplines, such as economics and psychology. He has explained political actions by studying the way individuals make choices and how groups of individuals interact, going beyond traditional examinations of behavior by social classes and political categories.

The event was organized by the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights and the Open Society Institute-Budapest.
