In the wake of the alleged poisoning of the imprisoned Kurd leader Abdullah Öcalan, his lawyer Ömer Günes came to Oslo to meet with specialists in the medical and legal professions, media and representatives of the Union of Trade Unions´ international department. The Norwegian Council for the Rights of the Kurds (RKR) invited to an open meeting at the Norwegian Human Rights House in Oslo in order to draw attention to Öcalan´s plight. (14-JUNE-07)

The Norwegian Council for the Rights of the Kurds (RKR) issued a statement to the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Standing Committee for Foreign Affairs, expressing deep concern about the health of Kurd leader Abdullah Öcalan. Günes shared details of Öcalan´s serving conditions and discussed the suspicions that the Kurd leader is being subjected to poisoning in prison. Read more about the background on this here .

He also informed the audience about the relevant Turkish legislation in this case and elaborated on the relationship between political reforms and the difficulties of implementing new laws.
