It is now a done deal. A part of the “Marshal Tito” base, which has been planed to be a new university campus with all facilities for better life of students, is cheaply sold to the United States for building the embassy facility. This is the greatest robbery in the history of students in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Area of the “Marshal Tito” base from 44.175 square meters was sold for 12,8 million KM (6,5 million EUR), and this price includes cleaning up the area and removing the existing buildings, and it is estimated that after that Bosnia and Herzegovina would have nine million left.
In spite of 7000 signatures, demands of over 30 NGOs, and 500 youngsters demonstrating in front of the building of BH Parliament against the selling a part of the land promised to the students, the BH House of Peoples has accepted the Proposal decision on selling a part of the land within the former military base “Marshal Tito” in Sarajevo to the United States for building the embassy facility.
The House of Peoples adopted a conclusion according to which the decision on spending the funds realized by the sale of a part of the “Marshal Tito” base will be issued by the BH Parliamentary Assembly at proposal of the BH Council of Ministers.
The Council of Ministers will forward the decision on spending the said funds to the Parliament in urgent procedure.
The BH House of Representatives accepted the Proposal decision on selling a part of the “Marshal” base in the beginning of February.
It is now up to the Council of Ministers to decide how funds from the sale will be distributed, with no guarantee that anything goes toward the promised university campus.
