His Excellency
Vladimir Grinin
Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador
of the Russian Federation
Embassy of the Russian Federation
ul. Belwederska 49
00-761 Warsaw

Dear Mr. Ambassador,

Deeply shaken by the brutal murder of Anna Politkovskaya, journalist of the Novoya Gazeta, we wish to express our deepest sympathies to the whole of Russian society.

The death of Ms. Politkovskaya is a tremendous loss for all the people of the Russian Federation and those the world over who hold dear the ideals of democracy and freedom of expression.

Her work enabled us Poles to believe there are journalists in the Russian Federation for whom providing a truthful, professional account with integrity is of fundamental importance.

We expect from the Russian authorities a full and prompt investigation of the circumstances surrounding the death of Anna Politkovskaya as well as punishment of not only the perpetrators but also those standing behind them.

Kind regards,

For the Foundation Board,

Marek Antoni Nowicki
Chairman of the Board
