MOSTAR – The Norwegian Helsinki Committee for Human Rights (NHC) and Nansen Dialogue Centre Mostar organized in February a Human Rights School for high school teachers from Mostar, Konjic and Stolac in Bosnia Hercegovina (BiH). (24-FEB-06)

The School consisted of two seminars: 27 – 30 October 2005 and 23-26 February
2006 and gave an introduction of human rights starting with an analysis
of the school situation in BiH, an introduction of important human rights
documents, human rights protection and consequences of violation of
human rights. The second seminar focused on the role of teachers in the
education system and their role in the process of confidence rebuilding. The
seminar also addressed the issue of history in education system as well as
the role of language and cultural heritage in confidence rebuilding. Gender
issues in teaching were also addressed.

The School was based on interactive learning on human rights with focus on
communication skills and cooperational skills and also on different methods
for solving problems related to differences among groups and how to overcome
prejudice.

The facilitators were:
Enver Djuliman  and  Lillian Hjorth from the Department for Human Rights Education,
NHC, Norway. Duka Pribicevi, lecturer and trainer on human rights at The Human Rights
Centre in Croatia. Sevala Vrpcic who is a female activist from Bosnia Hercegovina and
Inge Eidsvåg, professor at the Nansen Humanistic Academy in Norway.
