The member of Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in B&H – HCHR and former member of HCHR’s Management Board, Supervisory Board, and also former acting president of the Helsinki Committee, Enver Murgic, was fired yesterday at his workplace. The cancellation was signed by the Director of the Center for Culture and Education in Velika Kladusa, Zlatko Dizdarevic.

Mr. Murgić, who is a confirmed fighter for human rights, has worked in the past fifteen years in the middle of the environment which was and still is, burdened by many infringements of human rights and freedoms. Guided by the principles of objectivity and impartiality, he gained many enemies, especially in the ruling political circles.

Cancellation of Mr. Murgic’s professional engagement happened three years before his fulfillment of all required conditions for his retirement, and represents rough discrimination of the political opponent. Behind this attack, stands the municipal head of Velika Kladusa, Admil Mulalic and DNZ political party which is the party in power in that municipality.

Since this and similar attacks on the human rights defenders are common in recent years in B&H, this gesture is considered extremely dangerous for the future of human rights in B&H.

Therefore, HRH Sarajevo kindly asks for the members of Human Rights House Network to support us and stand up for protection of Mr. Enver Murgic.

HRH Sarajevo also invites all international institutions and organizations to send a letter of protest to the president of DNZ party, Rifat Dolic and municipal mayor of Velika Kladuša, Admil Mulalic.
