Azerbaijani people are mourning on the 15-th anniversary of the Khojaly tragedy, the Azerbaijani town where Armenian and Russian army conducted the unseen cruelty and barbarity to the innocent peaceful population on the night of 25 February 1992. Within the night over 600 civilians were killed, 56 of which were killed with particular cruelty. Azerbaijani people all over the country and beyond its borders revered the memory of the killed compatriots by attending the memorials in their honor, making the awareness-raising actions and rallies to spread the information about the

On the night of 25 February 1992, Khojaly, the second biggest Azerbaijani town in Nagorno Karabakh, was captured by Armenian separatists, with assistance from the Russian army´s vehicular regiment No 366. Khojaly was taken over and then occupied with up-until-that-time unseen cruelty and barbarity. During a period of only several hours, attackers killed over 600 civilians, including 106 women and 83 children. Fifty-six of these people were killed with particular cruelty.
 
The massacre of civilians continued for several days after the occupation began – occupants killed prisoners, raped children and women, decapitated people and hung prisoners. A total of 487 people were crippled as a result of the attack on Khojaly, including 76 teenagers, and 1,275 people were taken hostage. Although the majority of the hostages were returned, the whereabouts of 150 people remain unknown.
