Macedonian Women’s Rights Centre – Shelter Centre as the organization which within its mandate of acting includes the prevention, identification, direct assistance, mediation and representation regarding the victims of domestic violence, took active participation in the regional conference on domestic violence. Representatives from the relevant institutions which are tackling the issue of domestic violence throughout the region came from: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, France and Macedonia.

During the conference, issues such as the Protocols for acting by the relevant institutions, more precisely Ministry of Internal Affairs, Center for Social Welfare and Ministry of Health, and their coordination and cooperation in regards to finding efficient measures for protection of victims’ of domestic violence, was discussed thoughroughly.

Mrs. Daniela Dabeska, president of MWRC – Shelter Centre, had a role of moderator during the session on  “Acceptance and caring of victims by the medical – judicial  services”, where it was put a strong accent to the significance and importance of  the health sector’s inclusion in combating domestic violence.

Mrs. Dabeska emphasized this by saying that MWRC organization established collaboration with policlinic “Chair” in Skopje where the victims are being received and medically treated. Since there is no official Protocol for acting by the relevant institutions, but only a proposal of it, the care for the victims must be and is a part of the active communication between the NGO and medical sector.

After taking into consideration the experiences of France, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia, the urge of adopting Law on Protection of Domestic Violence was emphasized by the Macedonian participants and also, opening of the centers for working with perpetrators where they will receive therapy.
