According to EAJA affiliate, Uganda Journalists Union, Serumaga, a presenter with Radio One Spectrum, was picked up by security agents after taking part in a live discussion on WBS Television- one of the local television stations, on the evening of 11 September.

The discussion was about the state of Uganda after days of rioting around the central part of the country on Friday. The arrest is part of the intimidation that the government has come up with in recent times to gag media outlets from objectively informing the public.

A few hours earlier on the same day, four radio stations including CBS, Kaboozi, Sapientia and Ssuubi, all broadcasting in the local Luganda language, had been shut down by the government. Others managed to stay on air only after accepting to stop giving live commentaries and reports on the riots that rocked central parts of the country.

The arrest comes a day after four journalists- Joseph Mutebi, Moses Lemisa, Josephat Seguya and Godfrey Kimono, were badly beaten by the police while on duty covering the strikes.
