The Supreme Assembly of Azerbaijan Democrat Party took the decision to change the political course to a more constructive, avoiding the radical position. According to ADP, the changes were taken for “the current situation in the country, opposition’s depression, ineffectiveness of the previous struggle”. However this decision for “constructive” dialogue with authorities is recognized by his colleagues from other opposition parties as the cooperation with the ruling party. (29-JAN-07)

The First Deputy Chairman of ADP Serdar Jalaloglu explains this decision as a new tactics and political struggle. “We can persuade the authorities to be more democratic and prompt them to take actions in this direction. But this cannot be called an agreement and we remain in opposition,” Jalaloglu said.
He also expressed the hope that it would not cause problems within Azadliq bloc. However, the bloc did not support the ADP’s decision and Lala Shovket (Unity Movement) mentioned that they did not want ADP to join other parties around the governing party.
Reminder: Azadliq bloc is composed of Azerbaijan Democratic Party, the Popular Front Party (Ali Kerimli, Citizenship and Development Party (Ali Aliyev) and Unity Movement (Lala Shovket).
