Nov. 06.jpgTwo peace prizes have provided the inspiration for the publication of ´Prisoners in their own country´. 15 years have passed since Aung San Suu Kyi was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her struggle for democracy and respect for human rights in Burma. Ten years later, Burma´s best known student leader Min Ko Naing was awarded the students´ peace prize at the international student festival in Trondheim, Norway. Aung San Suu Kyi is still under house arrest. Two months after Min Ko Naing was interviewed for he book, he was, as reported on this website, sentenced in September to further imprisonment.

-Poems, quotes and 40 pictures
´Prisoners in their own country´ is the first book about the relationship between Norway and Burma that also relates to the ongoing struggle for democracy and human rights in Burma. With poems, quotes and 40 pictures from documentary photographer Rune Eraker´s journeys in Burma and the borderlands between Burma and Thailand, this is a book that shows the width and great variety that mark the struggle for democracy.
