The Norwegian Helsinki Committee recently launched the textbook “Human Rights – an introduction” in the Uzbek language. In addition to enabling the reader getting familiarized with the international tools that exist in relation to human rights, the book gives a description of the critical human rights situation in Uzbekistan. The book discusses the concept of “human rights” and gives an overview of the historical context in which the United Nations formulated the World Declaration on Human Rights. In addition it give a good overview of the existing system for human rights within the UN. The book also gives an account of the critical situation of human rights in Uzbekistan and discusses its relevance in relation to several other social issues.
