The hunger strike of youth activists, which were fighting for the restoration of the rights of two expelled students – Turan Aliyev and Namig Feyziyev for political motives – succeeded. The protest action, which continued since the 28-th of December ended up with the restoration of the expelled students to the universities. The success of the action also was realized due to wide national and international support and appeals to the administration of universities and the ministry (19-JAN-2006).

On the 19-th of January, there was held the meeting  of the members of Public Commission for Protection of the Rights of expelled students with the Minister of Education and Rectors resulted in restoration of the expelled students Turan Aliyev and Namig Feyziyev will continue their education in Baku State University and Pedagogical University correspondingly.

Ilgar-Ibrahimoglu-2According to the chair of the Commission Ilgar Ibrahimoglu (on the right), the students will be allowed to give the academic duties they have because of hunger strike till the summer session. The Ambassadors of Norway, Great Britain and representatives of other diplomatic missions also participated in the meeting.

The hunger strike held by the students to protest at violation of their rights has become the most important event in political and public life of the country in new year. The 21-days action caused the respect of and attention of human rights defenders, political parties, international organizations, diplomatic corps, as well as ordinary people of Azerbaijan. After numerous appeals of the sides to the president of the republic, the ministry of education, the ombudsman and the administration of the universities, which was also grounded in the terrible health state of the strikers, deteriorating day by day and their urgent hospitalization after almost 3 weeks of hunger – the students were restored to the universities.
