The Friends of the Human Rights House of Egil Rafto (Raftohusets Venner), was constituted on the 27th of April 2002. Membership is basically open to everyone interested in human rights, and in helping to run the Rafto House. (16 May 2002)
Approximately 25 enthusiastic members of all ages attended the meeting, which was held at the Rafto House. The day started with the annual meeting, where economy, budget, board elections, and other issues were discussed. Anders Kvam, who is already a member of the Egil Rafto Foundation, was elected chairman of the board. Kari Amble, the present manager of the Egil Rafto Foundation, then gave among other things, an orientation on the day-to-day administration of the house.
So far, 149 companies, institutions and individuals have signed up for membership. The membership is basically open to everyone interested in human rights, and in helping to run the Rafto House. The aims of the group are many and diverse, but one of the cornerstones is to spread information in the hopes of increasing people’s interest and engagement. In addition to
these tasks, the group will support- and help to develop the Rafto House further as a centre for human rights-projects. On a practical level, raising means for maintenance will be an important function.
The plan for how to achieve these aims, is to spread information through articles, pamphlets, books, lectures and seminars. The group will alsocooperate with / and assist other humanitarian groups in helping victims of human rights violations. The exchange of ideas and experiences, as well as guidance, will be of particular importance for this work.
The Friends of the Human Rights House of Egil Rafto will work closely with the foundation itself, and we would like to take this opportunity to wish them welcome and good luck!
