The event is an opportunity to:
- take an overarching view of the human rights situation in our world today
- reinforce the foundations for human rights and how action to realize human rights can contribute to progress on peace and security and sustainable development and viceversa
- highlight ways to strengthen the United Nations’ role in this area and identify actions to unleash rapid improvements in the realization of human rights globally
The event aims to discuss the UN’s role in human rights related to gender equality, governance and the rule of law and institution building. The event also will emphasize the needs of individuals affected by conflicts and disasters, particularly refugees.
On Tuesday, a debate about civil society space will be held and Milan Antonijevic, YUCOM and Human Rights House Belgrade will be speaking. Salil Shetty, Secretary-General of Amnesty International, Alaa Murabit, founder of Voice of Libyan Women, SDG Advocate, Christophe Deloire, Director-General, Reporters Without Borders and Monika Bickert, Director of Public Policy, Facebook are also among the speakers at the discussion moderated by Laura Trevelyan from BBC.
