Regional program of Human Rights Schools for the Youth in the Western Balkans begun in 2000 when the Norwegian Helsinki Committee and partner organizations from the Western Balkans organized the first school of human rights. Until now, we have had 280 local and 15 regional schools with more than 6,000 participants – mostly secondary school students from Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia.

The regional program of Human Rights Schools for the Youth in the Western Balkans is conducted by a big team of enthusiasts with a clear vision of peace and stability in the countries of the Western Balkans with rather developed democracies and awareness about the importance of the respect for human rights in all segments of the society. Our mission is to provide informal education, primarily to the youth and other interested groups through systematically developed curricula that promote the culture of human rights and offer alternatives to the policies prevailing in the countries of the Western Balkans.

Very important part of our program are numerous young, creative and enthusiastic people involved in youth groups. There are 12 youth groups in the region that work under auspicies of 7 organizations: the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in Republika Srpska, the Youth Initiative „Nisma Ime“ in Prishtine, the Macedonian Helsinki Committee for Human Rights, the Montenegrin Helsinki Committee for Human Rights, Centre for Peace Studies in Croatia, and the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in Serbia.
Until now youth groups implemented a lot of projects and actions dealing with different aspects of human rights.

Europeisk Ungdom (European Youth) / JEF NORWAY is the only all-party youth organization working in favor of a Norwegian EU membership. We gather young YES-people from both the political Left and the political Right in order to make Norway join the EU. This results in a unique political joint venture with large possibilities for fruitful discussions and exchange of experiences – across political viewpoints. Our members are aged 15-30, some of them having a background from political youth parties while others have the EU and Europe as their main issue of engagement.

Europeisk Ungdom has local sections all over the country – from Kristiansand in the south to Vadsø in the north. We also have student sections in Bergen, Oslo, Trondheim and Tromsø. The local sections in Europeisk Ungdom organize a wide range of different seminars, conferences, debates for their members, and others who are interested in European politics and obtaining a Norwegian EU-membership. In order to put the EU-debate higher on the political agenda, Europeisk Ungdom does a lot of networking with different political youth organizations in Norway, and they also organize a lot of actions and campaigns in order to draw peoples attention and strengthen their awareness about this important matter.

Europeisk Ungdom was established in 1973. The main focus of our political work can be summed up by the following 3 keywords: Environment, democracy and solidarity. Thus, while we have always had Norwegian EU membership as our main target, Europeisk Ungdom has also been greatly involved in projects in cooperation with youth organizations in the Balkans and other parts of Eastern Europe, as well as in the Middle East.

Youth Against EU is an organization for young people who believe that Norway should not join the European Union. Our main arguments against the EU are : democracy, solidarity and the environment. We think that the EU is an undemocratic union, that through it`s trade policy exploits poor countries in the south, and severely harms the environment.

YaEU is No to the EU’s youth organization. No to the EU is a big peoples movement in Norway, and has about 30000 members. We have more than 2000 members, and local groups in most counties. We do not follow any political party or ideology, but have members from the whole political specter.
