On 3-4 February 2012, with the assistance of the Human Rights House Foundation and the Human Rights House Tbilisi, the UN Special Rapporteur will meet civil society from Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Ukraine, Russian Federation, Poland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, UK , Norway and Uganda.

It will serve as a platform for sharing information between the human rights defenders and the UN Special Rapporteur on the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and association.

At the same time, OSCE ODIHR will present its two new tools, Associationline, an online resource on freedom of freedom of association, and the Handbook on monitoring freedom of peaceful assembly. The tools are designed for human rights defenders to be used in their monitoring and advocacy activities.

PURPOSE OF THE MEETING

Networking:
• Facilitate a platform for information sharing between the human rights defenders from Eastern Europe and Caucasus and the UN Special Rapporteur on the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and of association.

Capacity building:
• Presentation of two new OSCE/ODIHR tools: Associationline, an online resource on freedom of association, and the Handbook on Monitoring Freedom of Peaceful Assembly, which could be used by human rights defenders in their monitoring and advocacy activities.

Advocacy:
• Present the minimum standard of freedom assembly and association the states need to respect.
