Since 2008 and until 2015 the prize was awarded in three categories: the human rights defender of the year, the best journalist of the year, the best lawyer of the year. In 2016 the prize was awarded for the first time to the best human rights campaign/initiative of the year. The first winner of the new nomination is online magazine “Imena” (“Names”). Editorial team dedicated their victory to the club house “Open soul”, which is carrying out psycho-social rehabilitation and support for people with mental illness.
This year the awards and congratulations from Zhanna Licvina were received by two journalists at once: Adarja Gushtyn and Zmicier Drozd.
The Human rights defender of the year is Siarhei Drazdouski, the coordinator of the Office for the Rights of People with Disabilities.
The Award Ceremony was attended by the most prominent Belarusian dissident of the Soviet era Mikhas Kukabaka. A presentation of the documentary book “Mikhas Kukabaka”, which contains articles, interviews and letters, took place in the framework of the event.
