The training that took place in Samokov,  had 27 participants from governmental and non-governmental institutions (8 from Bulgaria and 16 from Macedonia), including representatives of the courts, inter-municipality centre for social work, underage delinquency department of Bitola, children’s homes of Skopje, daily centre for children of Skopje, SOS children villages in Skopje and Ohrid and representatives of the civil sector (Megjashi Embassy).

The lecturers were Mr. Stanislav Petkovski, specialist in medical psychology and visiting professor at the Academy Italiana and Mr. Kevin Brown, Professor of court and children psychology at the University of Liverpool and project manager of “Childhood without violence – good system for child protection in East Europe”.

Mr. Petkovski spoke about parenthood and types of positive and negative parents, as well as types of famillies that exist. The training offered examples from every day life.

Profesor Brown stressed the importance of early recognition of violent family or parents careless about their children, who usually grow up to be of deviant behaviour.

All participants had the opportunity to gain professional knowledge in the field of systematic therapy and transaction analysis, the importance of communication for human and all unwanted effects in the case of lack of good communication. Also, negative consequences of institutionalizing children at early age, were discussed, especially those who are being detached from mothers.

The participants used the training to familiarise themselves with the multidisciplinary approach on how to prevent violence and negligence of children, rather than to deal with its consequences.
