The Norwegian Helsinki Committee (NHC) has developed a new part-time course, to commence late September in Drammen, the biggest city in Buskerud. The course will be an important addition to the syllabus at Høgskolen in Buskerud (HIBU), the only institution for academic learning in this part of Norway (26-AUG-07)

Based on information material available on the Norwegian Helsinki Committee’s website www.nhc.no, this article has been written by HRH F / Niels Jacob Harbitz.

The course, developed as a ‘training for trainers process’, is meant to provide its students with the necessary skills for them to be able to offer high quality and exciting teaching in the three topics covered in the title of the course; human rights, multi-cultural understanding and conflict management.

The fast track
Combining theoretical teaching and practical exercises, individual and group learning methods, including drama, the course also aims to be educational in forming the students’ attitudes well beyond the study situation. The intensive course, taking the students on a steep learning curve through five full weekends and finishing off with a four-weeks’ home exam, all before Christmas, is a result of the successful co-operation between NHC and HIBU that was launched in 2000, and has since trained numerous students in a more in-depth-looking course on the same topics, but consisting of four modules, and running for two full years.
