“Reconciliation resources”, a British non-governmental organization, presented a new project entitled “Audio diaries in Azerbaijan” last Wednesday. (30 Sep 2004)

Regular people’s stories aired on radio

The goal of the project implemented with financial aid from the British government’s Global Foundation of Conflict Prevention is to offer facilities for ordinary people to express their views, eliminate existing stereotypes and promote tolerance. “These will be stories of ordinary people recorded on their own without the presence of journalists.

This is an example of the so-called “people’s broadcasting”, says the project coordinator in South Caucasus Yelena Cook at the presentation ceremony. The 3-5 minute diaries have been broadcast on air in Azerbaijan since September. Cook said the project was launched by Georgian and Abkhaz journalists in Georgia in 2002 and currently covers the entire South Caucasus region.
